When we started working with this school, we knew this would have to be treated as a special case and we would have to go above and beyond the call of duty to restore it to a level of proper functioning. The team decided to revamp the entire school’s infrastructure rather than just focusing on developing drinking water and sanitation facilities. #education #yuva #unstoppable ##inspiration #helpothers #motivate #encourage #Motivation #Share #Yuvaunstoppable

Power of Dreams Life appeared a little too challenging in this village! Enter Chandervati, wanting to study, but her grandmother adamant on not letting her. “She never wanted us to dream big (I wanted to become a teacher) and even forced my elder sister, who had not even passed high school then, to get married”. But her father, who could never himself study due to financial problems, desired to educate his children and so brought them away from his village to Gurgaon (he and Chandervati’s elder brother work hard at a construction site here so that the younger ones in family could study well). Despite her mother’s illness and high absenteeism from school as a result of this, Chandervati proved to be a brilliant student once she got admitted to a government school. For the little time she came to school, she hesitated to use the unusable (broken and unhygienic) toilets, worried about clean drinking water and the barren school walls eaten away by termites. “Our school toilets were out of use in every rainy season. The girls especially, faced the problem year round”. And that increased the dropout rates among girls the most. But, “not every school is as lucky as my Govt Middle School”, cries Chandervati in joyfulness. Yuva brought about this transformation in her life, and in that of many more girls’ and boys’, when it selected their school for transformation. The school has now got three new toilets for girls, “so now we no longer have to stand in long queues for using toilets”, and a RO water purifier has also been installed. The beautifully painted classrooms with new black boards attract many students like Chandervati to come to school happily and regularly. “I never imagined I would study in such a beautiful school and be able to live my dream of becoming a teacher; it is all because of Yuva Unstoppable and its vision to create better future for children by providing schools with clean drinking water and washrooms”.

Conquering Fears Parents were struggling to make ends meet; relatives were denying the girls their right to go to schools, even when the girl finally went to school, water-logged toilet facilities and lack of clean drinking water in schools welcomed her for most days, as if the crammed little common toilet back home, which was shared among four families, was not enough! Such was the state of conditions from which ‘fearless’ Gauri Jha emerged, victorious. Victorious, because, she fought against her poor conditions to make her future bright; victorious because, she believed in the power of strength. “I am like my father, fearless”, says Gauri. Gauri’s father has been a constant and chief source of motivation for her and her three siblings. To better educate his kids, he re-located from a village in U.P to Gurgaon in Haryana and worked there as an electrician. Against the desires of his family, he got her daughter admitted to a school. Even when despite all efforts, he could not afford to pay the school fees, he always tried to fulfil his children’s every desire. On the other hand, reflecting her father’s undying spirit, Gauri too continued to attend school and study hard instead of being discouraged by dismal sanitation facilities in school. Her struggles, prayers and faith in her convictions finally paid off when Yuva transformed her school. Today she happily boasts of the clean and beautiful environment at her school. Not only the toilets have been upgraded, but she and other kids have better access to clean water and an opportunity to study with other better infrastructure facilities. This encouraged other children to regularly attend school. Gauri cheers that “now, every girl has the freedom to use toilets in the school, which we all initially lacked”. Statement of Motivation – “Recently, I learnt from Mr. Amitabh Shah that when you truly want something that you need, and you pray for it from the bottom of your heart, not just for yourself but for all, you are sure to get it.”

Stay Hopeful, Stay Unstoppable! A grandfather who did not allow me to go to school forced my father to re-marry, and a step-mother who forced me to do all the household chores, at the tender age of 8! And all this in spite of moving to Delhi for better livelihood prospects. A fearsome condition, I wanted to shout loud at everything that stopped me from going to the school. But then, this was not all. Today, I am able to finally stay happily together with my mother and two brothers, albeit in a small house. My mother works day in and day out to make our lives better, and it is her sacrifices that motivated me to dream of becoming a teacher one fine day, inspiring people to become better human beings. However, to me, studying in a government school still meant lack of opportunity to study in some better school, it meant that because all my mother could earn was spent in keeping our shelter and getting us food, we were studying in poorly maintained government schools, which is not easy. Toilets so small, they either always stink too badly or remain water-clogged in rainy seasons, and don’t have water for the rest of the times. Safe drinking water seemed a fantasy and each day to school was a struggle for basic amenities. Many times it influenced me to not to go to the school, but my mother always said that if you face the fear with courage, the world will come around to tap your back and will support you. I believe that it was a similarly optimistic attitude of our school principal that attracted the good from around us, and so Lo and behold! Yuva identified our school and undertook to transform it. What I now love about my school is not just that how beautifully it has changed with fresh new wall colors and educational paintings hanging on those walls and in our classrooms, but most importantly, how clean it has become with spacious new toilets, as big as my room back home. And, that I don’t need to worry about drinking water anymore as it is purified. Now, I feel safe at my school. I question myself whom to thank for this new gift, my teachers, parents or Yuva Unstoppable? Then I feel it’s the Almighty who wants to see me happy after a struggling childho

Our goal is it to help children in India to get educated in a clean and motivating environment. Under the #EVOLUTION Project, YUVA Unstoppable improved the infrastructure in over 350 schools in India. Sanitation facilities for boys and girls and drinking water and dish washing stations were properly installed. The overall hygiene level of all the schools increased by 31%. The children feel more comfortable at school now and they enjoy their education in a satisfying ambience. This is clearly visible. Since YUVA started the #EVOLUTION Project, attendance, especially of girls, has gone up by 6%. Girls used to miss classes due to lack of sanitation during their menstrual cycle. Now, girls attend classes throughout the month. Separate washrooms were installed and there are now different stations for drinking and dish washing water. In addition, #YUVA painted the building and the walls of the schools with value based motivational quotes to establish an encouraging environment to study. Students are more satisfied with the school ambience and since the renovation new enquiries and enrolment went up to 30%. Thanks to the EVOLUTION Project, #children can enjoy going to school again and get the education they deserve in a clean, healthy and motivational environment. #Yuva #unstoppable #india #keepgrowing
